Artist talks

Posted on July 20, 2023

In one chill evening by Nan river, we had an interview with Intorn. We had some beers, relaxed and talked about life. It came to the point of his art inspiration, so we recorded it.

Intorn was born in Phitsanulok, Thailand. Since childhood, he knew he would become an artist and he had no other choice. When he was in his teenage, he lost his father by a car accident. It hit him very hard. The sorrow of losing the most important person in his life darkened his art, he said.

That was where he started to question what we called ‘beauty’ and produce art from other feelings existing in himself. For him, art is not just beauty, it can show every feelings and ideas.

That was where he became a post expressionist, a genre of art that shows much more than the beauty of things. This genre explodes our human feelings in the art. He studied a lot about the famous artists who produced from the same pain in life such as Edvard Munch and Francis Bacon.

MONG: What is your inspiration on art?

INTORN: The boredom of living. I produced work to feel the value of life when the world is boring. Therefore, I appreciate my life more.

MONG: To continue producing art for all of your life needs obsession. What create your obsession?

INTORN: Death. I realised that I could stop living anytime, so I wanted to create art as much as I can. My feeling told me that any other thing is not right for me, then why I have to do other things.

The death of my beloved ones made me think. The death of my father, my grandmother and others in my life raised me a question. What remains from me after I died? Art.

I also looked at a cactus and thought it is the gift of God. It is very strong and live long, almost forever. My art is my cactus.

I believe in God. God is misunderstood from people. God gives everything but people mislead it.
